BIPOC Creator Spotlight - MedCircle
MedCircle: One-stop shop for a Mental Health Database
MedCircle is a free YouTube channel that features prominent psychiatrists and psychologists. The practitioners cover a wide range of topics such as anxiety, depression, and trauma to emotional intelligence and stopping self-sabotage. You’ll benefit from hearing from many different perspectives to see which schools of thought resonate with you. While I practice from a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) perspective, it’s amazing to get insights from interdisciplinary professionals in the field.
Each video dives into a specific topics and it’s important that the information comes from professionals that understand evidence-based practices. I can’t honestly don’t know how they offer so much content for the low price of FREE FIFTY! I often recommend MedCircle to my clients for these reasons:
Depth and Breadth: MedCircle dives deep into diagnoses like anxiety and ADHD, but also explores colloquial terms such as self-sabotage, burnout, and empaths. Whether you're seeking knowledge about managing a disorder, or want to explore your own emotional growth, I’m sure you'll find a video that resonates.
Expertise with experience and credentialing: MedCircle consists of experienced and credentialed psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists, each lending their unique voice and perspectives. It’s like having panels of therapists from all walks of life whose goal is enriching your understanding of mental health with less of the social media disinformation. These lovely folks know what they’re talking about!
Actionable Insights: I’ve heard horror stories from clients of being in psychological treatment for years and years without experiencing any benefits. Or I’ve heard from many who view therapy and mental health as BS that doesn’t work and doesn’t offer much in the way of long-lasting change. MedCircle is a great way to bridge the gap - to see what mental health treatment has to offer and to dispel myths you may have about treatment if you’re on the fence. Each video offers practical strategies, coping mechanisms, and exercises to manage symptoms, build resilience, and navigate difficult situations.
It grows with you: New videos are uploaded regularly, and the MedCircle team is responsive to feedback from the community. I personally love the Q&A sessions and live streams where you can interact directly with the team and these forums allow for everyone to learn and grow together.
Here's a glimpse of the topics covered on the channel:
Mental health diagnoses: Addiction, Alzheimer's & dementia, anxiety disorder, ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, dissociative identity disorder (DID), eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more.
Treatment options: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and ketamine infusion therapy.
MedCircle bridges the gap. You may be starting out and need some Psych 101 primers, or you may be looking for more in-depth information about specific disorders. Whether you're navigating the complexities for yourself or supporting someone you love, this channel offers knowledge and guidance. Whatever your needs, the library of knowledge and wholesome people will have you covered.
BIPOC Folx - I personally love that there’s so much representation within the practitioners on this channel/platform. It’s heartening to see these wonderful people talk about mental health in a humanistic and compassionate way. In this video, you can see Dr. Judy Ho, Dr. Judith Joseph, and Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee talk about their mental health journeys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8OtSBIicho.
