About

Henry Zhu, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Living in the present moment isn’t easy. You may be in constant survival mode - vigilant, on guard, and unable to relax.

Hi, I’m Dr. Henry Zhu. I’m a Brooklyn-based Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I’m a psychotherapist, and I provide psychotherapy utilizing the latest evidence-based practices, scientifically supported to help people feel less stuck. Mind-Body Wellness encapsulates how I see therapeutic work - working on thought and behavior patterns while not neglecting the body and how it naturally deals with aversive life events. Above all, I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship - one that’s forged in trust, non-judgment, and compassion for one’s shared humanity. I’m also an LGBTQIA+-affirming and kink-affirming therapist, trying to do good work while being inclusion and equity-driven.

While I’m highly trained in therapeutic modalities, I’m also a father, a musician, a photographer, a techie, and a gamer.

I pursued psychology as a means of understanding myself and my community. As time passed, I became passionate about helping individuals in various marginalized communities.

I believe in the power of storytelling - it allows individuals to express themselves creatively and work toward acceptance of their own story. But often, we’re taught to want more and more, to strive toward perfection while sacrificing the present. I work with clients to celebrate who they are, as they are. We can change narratives of self-blame and self-doubt so we can OPT-IN to a life we’ve built rather than a life expected of us.

How I Can Help You

I specialize in treating individuals who present with anxiety, depression, or trauma. I work best with young adults and adults 18+ who can benefit from relating to themselves and those around them in a healthier manner. The journey we take is one of exploring emotions - from joy to grief - and coming out the other end with different perspectives and tools to move forward.

It’s also been an honor to work with a caseload that consists mostly of male-identified clients - 70-80% of my caseload at any given time is male-identifying. Men tend to seek therapy less often than women, so I applaud those who want to understand themselves better and deepen their relationships with others.

Individuals who have sought my services tend to present with issues deeply rooted in their upbringing or their cultural environments and internalized through years of doubt and blame. Usually, clients come from marginalized populations or immigrant families or have experienced trauma or oppression in some form or another. I’ve successfully worked with people who have to chronically people-please, be hyper-independent, feel consistently burnt out, or may be plagued with analysis paralysis or constant fight-or-flight. If this resonates with you, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation, and let’s explore if we’re a good fit to work together!

I say all of this as someone who has survived with anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms for most of my life. I, like many others, thought I was broken for the longest time. But we’re not broken. It’s been my dream to bring mental health to the forefront of conversations, destigmatize help-seeking, and help people recognize their true potential.

Mission Statement

Mind-Body Wellness is a private practice integrating physical and mental health practices to promote overall wellness. My mission has gradually evolved from helping individuals to helping communities of people. I am passionate about providing accessibility to mental health resources. This may come in the form of free videos, guidance toward free or low-cost resources, or community work that is fulfilling and has a far-reaching impact.
